I now own one of these babys! Nice, but prob should have waited until Apple reveal their new products on Tuesday – rumor of an ultra mobile laptop called a MacBook Mini! Could be very cool.
Still, this is a cool piece of kit, pretty much almost an iPhone without the phone. The wifi and web browser swung it for me in the end, and getting it for £70 cheaper on eBay from my trusted trader I got my 160gb iPod Classic from!
The Cloud, who offer the free* on the hoof wi-fi access at their 7500 points for the iPhone, offer Touch owners the ability to access the same network for £4/month – might have to get that too!
I am spending like a bastard on Apple at the moment…can’t get enough of them!
This product was released on 7th September 2007.
*as part of the monthly £35, 45, 55 tariffs from O2.
UPDATE: Well, I got this a day later and I am well impressed! The interface and the software are spot on, it truely is a mobile computer, not just an iPod, and it is so light and thin.

It is totally responsive, instant on and has great battery life and is very quick to recharge. It can recharge to 80% in 1.5h. Pretty neat.

The wi-fi is so very handy while out and about. I have joined up on The Cloud network, but now wonder if the BT OpenZone may have been better – it is more expensive, but they are all over Westminster.
The Safari web browser is good, but some webpages look crap in it – and it is quite hard to type on the keyboard. The sites that work best are the ones that have been optimised for the iPhone/iPod Touch – like Google and Facebook. I guess we will get to see more of these, especially as this platform has now gathered 27% of the smart phone market from a standing start!
The iPod part of the system works so well, Cover Flow is quick, smooth and works so well, it is an interface that lends itself so well to being flipped through by your fingers. The whole interface really does. It is amazingly intuative – no guide book included or required.
All in all, it is a very very cool piece of technology – the iPod certainly has come of age – we have been waiting a long time for the full screen iPod, but no one ever thought that it would look or work this good.
Makes me want an iPhone more than ever! I am going to wait and see what Tuesday brings – and maybe manage to hold off till Novemeber/next Jan! Yeah, right!
