About Moi
Hi, I’m Bruce Elrick. I currently live in London, Englandshire. Originally from Soctchland, and still miss the open spaces and lack of arseholes.
For gadget tokens, I am the Online Manager at Ofcom. Almost needless to say, the views expressed here are mine, and should not be taken as those of my employer.
I like dogs, hot showers, walks, thinking about exercise rather than doing it, music, walks, the idea of the countryside, buying books I’ll never read, re-selling those books on Amazon, photography, dreaming of running away, red wine rather than white after the Hyde Park incident, temperate weather if I’m outside, explosive weather if I’m indoors, people like me, the idea of a monarchy, architecture (with exception to the years of 1945-1979), trees, thinking about becoming a gardener.

A reverse chronology of my life
2010: Goodbye Noughties. Hello errrr
2009: Partial return of the twinkle. Third London job and fourth London flat. May slow down for a bit. Finally bought an iMac. Staycationed.
2008: We used to have an economy you know. Non specific gloom. Got an iPhone. The last week of the year a new job and a new flat. Return to Asia.
2007: Portugal, Latvia, Malta – laughed solidly for about a month. Moved West to South.
2006: Really enjoyed London this year – sowed the seeds. Now on ‘the system’ in the States. Now working for the World’s Biggest CharityTM
2005: Feb was a bad month. Day of triumph at winning the Olympics faded into a day of Terror – such contrast I never hope to see again. Fell in love with an Apple.
2004: Sold my flat. Moved to London. Joined a 344 year old company. Became a 30something. Began the new year in Budapest.
2003: Hating the flat.
2002: Bought my flat.
2001: Guess 9/11 dominated this year for everyone; I became a fully fledged WebMong.
2000: Hopes and dreams – anything seems possible, but ultimately wasn’t.
1999: End of an era.
1998: This was apparently the start of the Golden Decade – wish I had noticed. Google born.
1997: Joined the biggest employer in Europe. Things apparently could only get better.
1996: Graduated. USA road trip. Lookin good…
1995: My 21st – memorable for all the wrong reasons. Windows 95 hype – they’d kill for attention like this now! 1gb hard drive seemed massive.
1994: Got my first proper computer. A Dan 486! Whoop!
1993: Went to Uni after a year at College.
1992: Left School – quite daunting isn’t it? “Hey son, are you going to college?” “Ummm…I dunno.” “Hey son, you’re going to college.” “Ok.”
1991: Moved into Town. Loved that I did. Still love that house.
1990: I remember looking at my golf membership tag and thinking – hmm – a new decade, exciting! I never liked golf.
1989: Dad home. Family reunited. Bliss.
1988: Mum home, got a great dog that thought she was human. My folks claimed I never walked her.
1987: I remember I had on a terribly red cardigan for my 13th Birthday – but thought it was ace.
1986: Head and Shoulders on the Beach. Went to boarding school.
1985: Tanned.
1984: I’m Ten, must have felt good at the time. Still hot.
1983: Parched.
1982: Dry.
1981: Hot.
1980: A great year, or so it seemed at the time. A nice fat round number of a year. We moved to the desert this year – such an adventure!
1979: First sense of self – never forget that, walking home from School, down the lane, some sort of self realisation. Weird.
1978: Fell in a rosebush.
1977:
1976:
1975: Moved to Dyce.
1974: I was born in the July – 3 weeks early I think, my Dad had panicked and rushed my Mum to hospital. It’s often mentioned that this was the last time I was early for anything. I was also upside down, which explains a lot. Apparently, I have to work hard for a living – which sucks!
[I nicked this off Jason Kottke, coz I really liked it]
